5 months old

In a matter of days, our tiny brand new baby will be reaching her 5-month milestone. This is always exciting and bittersweet at the same time. As I shopped for 6-12 month clothes for her yesterday, I saw the tiny 0-3 months clothes that she fit in only a few short months ago. It is phenomenal how fast these little cuties grow! Some Summer updates:

She sits up. She can comfortably sit on her own for at least a minute. Whenever she is laid down or propped on a pillow, Summer will do crunches to attempt to sit up. Apparently, at her babysitters, she actually did sit up, but then immediately toppled over onto her face. (SO cute!) The view is certainly better sitting up rather than laying down!

She coos like a dove. It's so funny. You'd swear you were listening to doves nesting in your roof, but no-- it's our daughter.

She giggles and hides. When mommy is holding Summer, daddy will make faces at her. Summer always finds this funny, so she giggles and buries her face in mommy's shoulder. If she's sitting on her own, she'll bury her face in her own hands.

She makes a motorboat sound with her lips. The excitement of discovering new sounds with her mouth is nothing short of intriguing (and entertaining).

She sucks on her lower lip. Yes, this makes her look like a toothless old lady. It's rather hilarious.

She LOVES toys. She likes her ladybug and her sphere rattle. As long as it makes a sound or it feels good on her tongue, she'll play with it until she gets sleepy.

She likes being super warm. She never sleeps as well or is as happy as when she's bundled up way more than I think is necessary. We check on her to see if she's overheating, but she is most calm and happy when she has at least 50 blankets piled on top of her. As the weather cools down, we have a small portable heater next to the bed, and she sleeps in her pajamas + a wearable fleece blanket and a super thick fleece blanket tucked around her. Like father, like daughter.

She still loves nursing. She prefers the breast to the bottle, thank goodness. She's eating more at daycare, but is still making up for missed feedings at night. On the weekends, she sleeps amazingly because she doesn't need to make up for those missed feedings. Although the doctor gave us the green light for starting solids last month, we're waiting until Thanksgiving to start her on purees and cereal. Daddy and Mommy are super excited!!
