This weekend was full of milestones. Therefore, it was short.
First, Summer spent her first night without mommy and daddy. This was purposely done on a night that was no more significant than any other, just in case we needed to quickly come to the rescue-- which I think we both imagined we might. So, we dropped Summer off before bedtime and went out to an adult dinner, like we once did on a regular basis. According to reports, Summer did well, playing and having fun. Even until after bedtime, she was playing until her Bebe rocked her to sleep. She slept for a few hours and woke up, refused a bottle, and went back to sleep. This happened throughout the night, where Summer essentially fasted until she woke up at 6:30am, where she had fasted long enough to no longer be picky (after 11 hours, this is huge!). So, for the entire 14 hours that Summer was away from Mommy, she only ate a measly 7 ounces of milk. So, essentially she was cluster feeding until the end of the day. By the way, Mommy and Daddy did OK too. We woke up just as often, and I think we got as much sleep as we do when she's here, but it was a learning process for all of us! Thanks for all the patience from her Bebe and Auntie Khat for giving all the love and patience throughout the night for our girl!
Today was going to be the day that Summer started solids. However, we were going to wait until the evening because of all of the above that was already happening. We spent the day in Fremont and did some grocery shopping. After our shopping, we stopped at DeAfghanan for some kabob and bolani for late lunch. Now, for the past two weeks, Summer gets inexplicably fussy when we eat. This happened again. So, Ramis held her on his lap to help to settle her down. Ramis gave her a piece of bread for her to gnaw on (she doesn't have teeth yet), and as I watched her across the table, I saw tiny soggy chunks of bread get swallowed by my little big girl! Before she gnawed off any more (she only really ate a tiny, tiny piece), Ramis hid the bread from her, but she got MAD! She was yelling for her bread back! So, her limbs going crazy, she lunges for Ramis's plate while his head was turned and she took a fistful of rice and tried to shove it in her mouth. Before any of it made it to her mouth, Ramis stopped it. But, watching her really cracked all of us up-- and still is. This crazily hungry little baby was acting like a ravenous beast throughout our lunch. So, to say the least, she was ready for her dinner.
By the time we got home, Ramis and I had lots to do to get cleaned up from Summer's mini-vacation. I fed her and fed her in an attempt to not recreate our ravenous beast from a few hours before. We put her in her high chair, we had our little snacks in hand, and we fed her some whole grain rice cereal. This little big girl sucked it right off the spoon, like an old pro. She swallowed more and more and kept opening her mouth for more. Within a few short minutes, Summer was almost done, so we tried to thin it out to make it last, but she was screaming in between each bite as if to say, "give me more!!". Well, we finished it off and stopped with a fussy baby. I attempted to nurse her, but she didn't take to it. But, it was nothing that a little time in her jumperoo didn't fix quickly (distraction is key for a 6 month old).
Thinking about today is going to make me laugh for a very, very long time.
