Sleeping in her own room:
We struggled at first to keep Summer asleep. She wasn't opposed to sleeping in her room, but she couldn't seem to stay asleep for long. So, we tried lots of things and we learned some things about this little moosh:
- She likes to sleep on her side. We had to get her on a bigger, firmer mattress with no sleep sack to discover this fact.
- She likes cuddle the blanket in her face. This came with lots and lots of anxiety on the part of mommy and daddy when we discovered this. What do we do? Well, to quell our anxiety about the strangulation risk, we cut her favorite blanket in four small paper-towel sized pieces for her to grip and cuddle in her face as she sleeps. We've seen/heard what happens to our child when she doesn't have a blanket in her face, and it's not fun. With this, she can safely fall asleep and stay asleep. A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!
- She's independent. As long as feeding needs are met, she'll sing to herself in bed once she wakes up or before she falls asleep. When she's good and ready to fall asleep, she'll find a pacifier in her crib and put herself to sleep, thank-you-very-much.
She also recently started eating solid foods, and mommy and daddy love to eat. Here are some of Summer's adventures in eating:- She doesn't like green vegetables. Avocado, green beans, and peas? Summer will pass. Even when we try to disguise them in other foods, this girl picks up the taste and spits them right back out.
- She does like orange fruits/vegetables. Papaya or sweet potato? Yes, please! Papaya she took to right away!
- She also loves bananas, pears, blueberries, and she love-love-loves rice.
- We were eating chicken the other day and when Ramis was finished with one of the drumsticks, he gave it to Summer. She, like her daddy, sucked on the end of the bone for a good few minutes. I love it!
