Maui, Phase #1

Day #1:

The flight over was good. Summer did well, despite refusing to eat and sleep and therefore becoming increasingly antsy and restless... which is fun when you're confined to a small space with a baby on your lap for 5 hours. ;) On the last leg of our trip, she fell asleep while sitting on my lap as our plane landed in Maui. Great timing.

We arrived shortly at our condo (after an obligatory stop at Costco) and the condo was PERFECT. 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, with the beach like 10 steps and the pool like 5 steps from the lanai. The condo is spacious and quiet, close to everything and a million dollar view. Who knew perfection could be this inexpensive!?!

Summer has adjusted to traveling well and fell right to sleep after eating some cheese and a ton of Costco samples. ;) While she slept, Ramis unpacked and I stopped at Safeway to stock up on food for the week. We were set and fell asleep at 9pm... ;)

Day #2

We expected Summer to awaken at around 4:30 or 5am, given the time difference. However, she actually woke up at 6am (thank goodness, on one hand), so instead of taking the early morning drive to Haleakala NP to see the sunrise like we had intended, we took a 9am drive after a long, leisurely breakfast of butter croissants with guava jelly, guava sweet buns, and some strong Maui roasted coffee.

Summer fell asleep on what I thought was going to be a 45 minute drive that was actually a 1.5 hour drive. Thank goodness for that! We had been to Haleakala back in 2002, but we knew Summer was going to love it. When we got there it was as breathtaking as ever with amazing views that make you feel like you're on top of the world. It was brisk and windy, but we had fun.

We drove back down to home in Kihei and enjoyed nice naps and then some time at the pool and our neighboring beach. I must say that I have never seen a human being this enthusiastic about the pool and beach before. Summer was simply in LOVE. It's such a great feeling when you see your child so happy.

We finished off the day with a some BBQed local caught fish, rice, and cole slaw that we had the pleasure of preparing right in our own home-away-from-home. After Summer went to bed, we enjoyed a gorgeous sunset right from our very own lanai. Who knew life could be this good? Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings us.
